what we are about
VISION
We’ve set the bar high. We have a clear vision to help the people of the Manawatu be the healthiest and happiest in the world. Yip that’s right!
MISSION
We are on a mission to create an exceptional, welcoming and supportive space and experience for you to find your strength, physically & mentally!
APPROACH
A friendly bunch of people who walk the talk, problem-solve to break down barriers for you to reach your health goals and genuinely care.
The Crew
Studio Rubix grew from a wee brainstorm whilst co-founders Kate and Toby were living in Russia balancing babies, professional rugby and culture shock. Health & wellness is a bit like a Rubik’s Cube; a little unpredictable and a constant challenge to juggle the various elements. There’s the physical, your nutrition, mental health, social relationships, restorative health & self-identity. Many people do not have balance. That is where we come in. We help you create it.

Prior to starting this business in 2014, I was a professional rugby player for over 10 years. When your job is to be as fit and strong as possible with weekly games to challenge your abilities there is a huge pressure to be at your physical and mental prime. This experience has shaped me as a trainer immensely. I am passionate in working with everyday people and athletes to motivate them, manage or prevent injuries, and encourage people to move and function better.

I am Palmy born and raised where I’ve been playing hockey for 18 years and completing my studies. I have been able to train and coach from a very early age with having 3 younger brothers and it has been through that coaching where I learnt that I have a passion for fitness and helping others.
I am all about giving it a go and jumping out of the comfort zone that many of us get stuck in. My favourite quote that I live by is “Rest at the end, not in the middle” {Kobe}

I am a country girl at heart, growing up on a dairy farm in the Manawatu meant I was lucky enough to have an active childhood helping on the farm or being involved in competitive sports, this being on water, on the field and on the court. I like to encourage a balanced lifestyle through physical activity, nutrition, mental health and a positive outlook. I am excited by the possibility of helping people achieve that balanced lifestyle.

I’ve recently moved to Palmerston North from New Plymouth and before that Dunedin. My journey since completing my study has seen me working with people across the spectrum; from those wanting to lose weight or move better, to athletes wanting to gain a competitive advantage in their sport. I have a passion for improving human movement and performance and my goal is to help people first move better and then move more often. In my spare time you’ll often find me out exploring with my wife and kids or doing my own exercise!

I learned about the importance of food and nutrition from a young age- I grew up on a dairy farm in the UK, competed in regional level sport, and nursed many injuries! My scientific curiosity drew me to a PhD where I am looking at how food affects the health of our gut microbiome (the billions of
microbes that live in our tummies!). My passion is for taking the latest nutrition research and finding useful, practical applications for it in our everyday lives.

I have grown up playing sport and keeping active. I believe wellness is a lifestyle and not a quick fix, as such includes moving, nutrition, wellbeing and finding balance within our busy lifestyles. Juggling a family of 4 kiddies, I understand the challenges faced daily to create good habits and routines that allow us to live our best lives whilst maintaining overall wellbeing. I look forward to working with people from all walks of life to help you achieve your balance- in whatever way that may be.
