Chocolate Oat Energy Bites

We all need a little boost to get through busy school or work days, and that’s where our Chocolate Oat Energy Bites come in. Packed with oats, dates, and a hint of cocoa, they provide slow-release energy to keep you fuelled and focused. They’re quick to make, easy to store, and perfect for lunchboxes, mid-morning snacks, or a pre-training pick-me-up. Best of all, they’re deliciously chocolatey without feeling like an indulgence — a snack that tastes as good as it works.

Ingredients (makes ~10 small bites)

  • 2/3 cup ground oats
  • 2 Tbsp cocoa powder
  • 2 tsp honey
  • 2/3 cup dates, soaked and drained (add a drop of soaking liquid if needed)
  • 4 Tbsp chopped nuts or seeds
  • Coconut, for rolling

Method

  1. Place the ground oats, cocoa, honey, dates and nuts/seeds into a food processor.
  2. Blitz until the mixture comes together and forms a sticky dough. If it seems a little dry, add a small splash of the date soaking liquid.
  3. Roll the mixture into small balls.
  4. Roll each ball in coconut to coat.
  5. Store in the fridge in an airtight container

Recipe Notes

  • For a fun variation, leave a selection of whole nuts (such as almonds, walnuts or brazil nuts) and roll a spoonful of the mixture around a whole nut in the centre.
  • These are a great lunchbox or mid-afternoon snack, especially during the busy school term.
  • The combination of oats, dates and nutsprovides slow-release energy to help keep you going between meals.
  • They also keep well in the fridge for several days, making them a great make-ahead snack.
  • Swap the nuts or seeds for your favourites, or leave them out entirely for a nut-free version
  • Easy to grab and take with you, making them ideal for busy mornings, study sessions, or pre-training fuel.
